HD Audio driver released for X1000

It was with a lot of excitement that I keenly fired up my X1000 today to download the recently released HD Audio driver for the X1000.

So why the interest in the new X1000 audio driver? Well, the X1000 comes delivered with an internal Audio card on the motherboard supporting 7.1 channel audio, but until today it didn't work with the AmigaOS4.1 audio drivers. The reason for this is because the older AmigaOS4.1 drivers is for audio cards based on the old AC97 Audio card standard.

New Backgrounds for X1000

Today DJ Nick released some new HD Wallpaper backgrounds for AmigaOS4.

Given it has been a while since I have changed my workbench background, it was a good opportunity
to do so today!

I have included some workbench screen grabs using two of the new backgrounds on my X1000 (click to expand):

Dual Displays on X1000

As regular followers of my blog will know, I have a dual video card setup on my AmigaOne X1000 - a Radeon 9250 PCI and the Radeon HD card included in the X1000. The 9250 card is used to play games that require hardware 3D acceleration until the Radeon HD 3D hardware drivers are available.

However, until now I have had to feed VGA and DVI connections to one display and switch modes on the monitor....but no longer (click to expand):

Fixing the Boot sound on my X1000

On the first day I received my X1000 (last year) and powered it up for the first time, I notice the boot sound it plays was scratchy and sounded terrible.

Because it was annoying I immediately disabled the command that runs the boot sound, which is located in System:s/startup-sequence. The line in question is shown below while editing the file in Notepad:

2012 on the X1000 - A Look Back

Given that it is almost the end of the year, I thought it would be good to look back over the year 2012 and significant releases for AmigaOne X1000 and it operating system AmigaOS4 during that time.

I do know (and acknowledge) that there has been plenty of activity around MorphOS, AROS and Classic AmigaOS3.x platforms too in 2012 (I run all three of these platforms as well), but these are not the focus of this AmigaOne X1000 blog as it runs AmigaOS4. It would be interesting to compare MorphOS 3.1 and AmigaOS 4.1.6 performance on the same X1000 hardware, but that's another story!
